A sad day for Bird Town!

Many people stopped by to ask why we were taking the birdhouses and feeders down. It made us happy that people cared about our project and also sad because it was the last day of Myrtle Avenue Bird Town. But we had a good run and we hope that all of our neighbors enjoyed the project while it was up!

Thanks to our friend, Chad, for coming out to help us!

If you’re wondering where the birdhouses and feeders will go, you may be able to view some of them at the Ingersoll and Walt Whitman Housing Community Gardens. We’ve donated several and plan to donate more to other community gardens. We’re glad they’ll be able to have an extended life on Myrtle Avenue.

It’s been a great seven months! Huge thanks to <a href="http://www.myrtleavenue.org/"target="blank">MARP and NYC Parks!

O HAI!

Aaannnd we’re back!

Daniel made this awesome packet for MARP to distribute to teachers and educators in the neighborhood! We’re hoping that it will help them interact with Myrtle Avenue Bird Town before we de-install in December.

Check it out! There is a ton of information and a bunch of activities and pretty pictures in the packet. Try spotting some of our birdhouses or build your own suet bird feeder!

You can download the packet here. Super cool!

And be sure to get your last gander at Bird Town before it’s gone!

P.S. In case you were wondering about the title image, we couldn’t find a fitting one, so we posted a photo from a Brooklyn chicken coop we visited recently. Hey, it’s still about birds, right?

Awesome!

It took us forever to find these photos, but we finally found them! Dave Pinter took some really amazing photos of Bird Town about a week after we installed. It looks like it was a perfect day for light outside or maybe he just worked some photography magic. Check out the title photo and the photo below for examples of his work!

You can view the entire set of photos here.

Thanks Dave!

Sweet!

Our first television interview! Local (NY, NJ, CT, PA) Chinese news station, <a href="http://www.sinovision.net/index.php?module=html&act=en"target="blank">Sinovision, aired the segment last night.

The reporter, interviewer, and camera man, <a href="http://www.daweiwu.com/home.htm"target="blank">Dawei Wu, was friendly, funny, and fun. He was also very organized and quite an enthusiastic character. You can see him in the photo above. We met up with Dawei at the Person Triangle site and proceeded from there!

You can watch our video interview <a href="http://www.sinovision.net/index.php?module=news&act=details&col_id=6&news_id=145144"target="blank">HERE!

Note the seriousness of Dawei and the silliness of Daniel and I. Hehe!

Since neither of us can speak Mandarin or read Chinese, we plopped the text into <a href="http://translate.google.com/#"target="blank">Google Translate and this is what is spat out at us… please enjoy! (LOL)

Hello all,

We’ve been on hiatus for the past month or so, hence the lack of posts. By hiatus, I mean to say that we were in China and the Philippines! The title image of this post is the UK Pavilion at the World’s Expo in Shanghai! It looks strangely similar to our zip tie house, don’t you think?

While we were away, we picked up on some great press from <a href="http://www.ooh.com/"target="blank">Ooh.com, <a href="http://quirkynyc.com/"target="blank">Quirky NYC and <a href="http://gothamist.com/"target="blank">Gothamist (again!).

Check out the three articles here:

<a href="http://www.ooh.com/blog/general/the-birds-new-abode-in-brooklyn-myrtle-avenue-bird-town/"target="blank">The Birds’ New Abode in Brooklyn

A special thanks to Spencer of Quirky NYC for stopping by our workshop. We love the video!

And some special thanks needs to go out to Seth and Melissa who came by and helped us manage the workshop. Couldn’t have done it without the help!
